It was the thread!

It was the thread!

I procrastinated revisiting the longarm until after dinner. Instead I worked on the postcards that I can’t share yet.

Once I got back to the longarm I went through the steps methodically to see if I could find the problem. I double checked tension, rethreaded the machine, treated the thread with silicone and changed the needle. Nothing worked. So I tried another thread.

Bingo!

On the right is a variegated thread, on the left, a solid. The solid thread ran with no breaks. The variegated thread (the bad one) definitely has a different feel, kind of stiffer, although they are both polyester.

I’ll not throw it out. If nothing else, I  can use it for basting or as a bobbin thread.

I didn’t remove the variegated section of stitching either.

No one will notice the switch.

I hope to get a couple of rows quilted today in between errands and quilt club tonight.

Too bad about the thread because it’s really pretty. I don’t think I’ve seen a variagated purple thread before (not that it’s obviously not a thing). Glad you had an alternative.

Whew, a bad thread can be a perplexing issue. I am glad you got it sorted out.

Glad it was an easy fix in the end. It’s so frustrating when we can’t just get to the quilting and get it done!

Is the problem cone of thread Affinity (by Filtec)? It has a reputation for being finicky/brittle. I have 3 cones of it, and it seems to run fine in my Innova. They say to run slower… for best results. I don’t think I will buy more of it, as there are so many other threads that are better….
