Dyeing and quilting

There’s so much money being spent around here on boring things that I really haven’t accomplished much else.

So far we have a new washing machine that required a plumber to install a new overflow pan and we have passed a termite inspection.  We’re gathering quotes for a new HVAC unit and are shocked by how much more expensive it is than 28 years ago. Yes, we have 2 units that have lasted over 25 years! We’ve been very lucky.

Getting quotes for replacing a shower has been a little more challenging but we’ll get there. It’s too big for one of those shower replacement companies but kind of small for most contractors. Fortunately, it’s not an emergency.

I have fitted in some time for a little fun.

Tuesday I dyed fabric for the first time since I  don’t know…. maybe December. It’s mostly quilt backs but I also dyed toddler tshirts for my grand-neice. I’ll be getting the Cricut out soon!

Yesterday, after the washer was installed I caught up on laundry. After dinner I had a little energy for quilting.

There are 4 framed blocks in the center of the quilt that I worked on. I love ruler work and did some simple diagonal lines in the green frame.

In the dark blue frame I’m doing 2 parallel lines. This will be repeated in the dark borders. That’s what I’ll be doing for the next few days between appointments and yard work.

Today is for the HVAC people.

I thought I’d share how I used AI, specifically Grok, to help me with our house projects. For the washing machine I have some very specific requirements. The most important one was that I be able control the water level and it needs to have a soak feature. I put all of my wants into Grok and it gave me the models, along with their dimensions and ratings. I picked the two that felt met my needs best and Grok gave me the dealers in my area that carries them. I walked in the one store that had both and had my new washer selected in about 30 minutes.

Same for the HVAC systems. I asked Grok my questions about various brands and it supplied me with the dealers in my areas that carried the ones I was interested in.

Probably my best AI success story is getting a physical therapy plan. I have had back/hip pain for decades. I now know that it’s caused by some bone length discrepancies in my legs. One day I fed Grok my medical condition, described the pain I deal with, my age, gender, overall physical condition and my exercise preferences. Then I told it the tools that I had to work with: TENNS machine, red light, acupuncture, chiropractor, etc.

After some back and forth with questions and clarifications, I ended up with a 5 page detailed PT plan that is working a treat. I got a section on what to do for 7 – 10 days when it flares up, what I need to do every single day “no exceptions”, a work up plan to get stronger and a long term weekly exercise schedule. The whole thing took less than an hour and it’s the best PT plan I’ve ever had. It even told me how often to go to the chiropractor and acupuncture. Absolutely amazing.
