Ella arrived Monday and I’m taking her home today. In between we have been very busy! She gets quite focused when she gets into a project. It’s fun to watch.

Here’s what we made in 2 days. First, some pillows.

These were made with a rag quilt technique using flannel as the backing.  She cut the squares. She still needs some practice with the rotary cutter but she got better as she cut more.

We decorated a bulletin board.

We purchased the bulletin board. It had a brown frame so she started by painting it white. She liked this Blue Sky gradient remnant and she printed the phrase off the Cricut. The trim was a bonus. I salvaged it off a vintage linen. I almost didn’t save it and I had completely forgotten about it. We were excited to find it and the blue ribbon matches the fabric perfectly. Elmers Spray Glue worked great to put it all together.

I bought 2 kits for her. One she requested and one I bought as a surprise.  The requested one was for pipe cleaner flowers.

I didn’t even know this was a thing. Apparently it’s a big thing and, I admit, kind of fun. She loved it and she has enough supplies to make more at home. I even got her a glue gun to add to her home craft supplies.

The other kit was a bracelet kit that popped up during Prime Day shopping.

Eight bracelets for about $10! These were a lot of fun. I’ll have to look for more jewelry kits in the future.

She finished the day off by making 2 bookmarks.

She just wanted something simple with no decoration.

As for skills, her sewing machine skills have improved considerably from last year.  Her handling of the iron, however, still makes me nervous as hell.

Next year she wants to make a puff quilt. Egads! I’m going to try to talk her into a rag quilt.

While she was sewing her pillows I was able to make 3 sets of potholders.

This morning we’re making cookies before I take her home. This afternoon I’ll get the sewing room back in order.

It was a great camp!

Looks like it was wonderful. Having the 2 young grands starting July 10th- 4 and 8. Have to find some crafts for them. The 8 year old is a Lego whiz.

A puff quilt is a nightmare to make. I wonder if she would really have the patience to do it. It looks like she had fun.

Egad, a puff quilt. How about a puff pillow instead?

Wow, I am sure she had a lot of fun. I need to check into the pipe cleaner flowers. That might be something to entertain Mom.

Love the bulletin board! The trim is perfect. Lots of great projects, and so good to see the next generation interested in sewing.

Great projects and Ella did a great job. She will probably never get tired of jewelry kits, either! Another one that kids love to do is making stuffies. Monsters are great. Lynda Heines posted a kit on her blog that could give you some great ideas! https://lyndaheines.com/2026/06/27/sew-a-monster/ ………..and with a monster, nothing is wrong!!
