Zane’s Quilt

It’s done! Yesterday I got the binding done and the label attached. I even made a zippered storage bag for it. I really love how the plaid binding worked out. I think it’s the perfect finishing touch.

Zane’s Mom picked the Bible verse for the label. Sewing that one was the last step. The bag is made from leftover backing fabric and I added the same icons that I used on the pillows. The bag is about 25″ square and holds the quilt folded into 8ths.

It’s quilted with a patriotic pantograph design using Superior Magnifico thread in a bronze color. In the middle photo you can see how the backing fabric matched the UNC shirt block.

When I deliver the quilt, I will also get to deliver the 12 pillows for his brothers and sisters.

I am over the moon with the way this project turned out and it was a joy to work on a memory quilt that wasn’t emotionally draining. I truly hope this is the last one.

Bless you, Vicki. The quilt is stunning. I am not connected with the family at all, but I find the quilt quite moving. The cross simply lights up the whole quilt without being overpowering. Each block, in itself, speaks volumes. As you mentioned, the binding fabric is perfect to tie it all together. And then the pillows…. perfect!

Can you take a little break now to sorta switch gears?

Thank you for sharing your journey with these marvelous works of art and heart.

This is one of the most incredible things our family has ever been given. No words can convey how grateful we are to have this in memory of our son, Zane. Vicki’s talent and generosity is such a gift! He was a wonderful son and brother. He never once gave us a moment of trouble in his life. He was such a great example to his younger siblings. He was a blessing every day of the 21 years, 3 weeks, and 4 days of his life. This is a priceless family heirloom that we will cherish dearly.
