Bears, crochet and Tombstone

It’s been a few days so let’s catch up. None of this is chronological order. It’s just what’s been going on between pool time, exercise time, reading time and eating. We couldn’t have better weather.

Let’s start with the bears.

I haven’t done as much sewing as I planned because it gets about 80 degrees in that room in the afternoons and the lighting isn’t really good enough for evening sewing.  But I have finished 3 more bears. There are only 5 to go.

I counted up the tree HST blocks and I’m short a few. If I have time I’ll be able to start putting a few blocks together but will need to cut more fabric when I get home to finish the quilt.

I’m happy that I grabbed a bag of tiny HST blocks as I was packing. Sewing them in pairs has been great for leaders and enders.

On the crochet front, I got an idea to make a sun hat with another cotton yarn that I bought. It was a lot of fun to make, it fits and it’s completely useless. I took it to the pool to use while reading and it’s way too holey. I think it would work better in single crochet and a smaller hook but, at this point, I’ll probably just buy a bucket hat.

I did use the little bit of leftover yarn to make a caddy for my new tiny water bottle.  I wanted a small bottle for short hikes and walks. This one from Amazon is really nice.

Now, on to touristy things. We went to Tombstone Monday. I’m so glad I read the book before we went. It was really helpful, especially during the reenactment to put contextto the abbreviated story. Tombstone is a small town and is 100% dependent on tourism so everyone is super friendly and there’s lots of stuff for sale.

The reenactment is as cheesy as you would expect but they make it fun with audience participation and it was true to the story.  I’m glad we went, it was a fun day. I got a tshirt and I don’t need to go back.

Going out of town we stopped at the Boothill Graveyard. It was Tombstone’s first graveyard and it’s where the victims of the shootout are buried. There are also some interesting headstones and I’ll leave you with those.

Tomorrow we’re off to the Tubac Art Festival down near the border. Chris and Laurie are leaving their handicapped spouses behind Friday for a long hike and we have a Hawk Walk Saturday.  Otherwise it’s just more pool time, reading and eating.  It’s a perfect vacation.

There is a wonderful Sunday market in Tucson. Can’t tell you where it is as my SIL and BIL were driving. Lots of great food, jelly, etc. I bought a turquoise ring for a really good price there. Enjoy.

the reenactments can be fun to watch at times – sometimes down right silly but nice. I remember watching the movie on that with a bunch of actors that are known names – 15+ years ago? I have not seen Tombstone though – my sister saw it when she was there and liked it a couple years ago – her son lives near Phoenix in one of the towns around the edges – I think Mesa?

Glad you are having fun. I had to laugh at the tombstone for George Johnson – he is my 7th cousin 3 generations back
