Some crochet and more desert

Laurie and I went yarn shopping Saturday because I got it in my head that I wanted a water bottle holder.

I found this recycled, overpriced cotton tarn that I liked and thought I could get one water bottle carrier out of it. I did find a pattern but, in the end, I didn’t follow it much. I made a bottom as big as I needed  and then stitched straight up the bottle. It’s simply alternating roes of all DC with a row of DC, CH1, SK1.

I didn’t make it exactly the length on the bottle because I knew it would stretch. The strap is rows of 5DC. Once I got to my estimated length, I temporarily attached it to the other side. Then I filled the bottle with water and hung it on a door handle overnight to stretch. Then I was able to finish it to the right length.

I think there’s a possibility that I might really use this!

I had some yarn leftover so I made 3 coasters. They aren’t pretty but they will work. This condo doesn’t have 1 coaster in it. I’ll leave these behind for the next guests.

This yarn is a little hard on the hands to work with. I’m glad I only bought 1 ball. I bought another cotton yarn that I’m going to attempt a sun hat with.

On the vacation front, the weather continues to be spectacular.  Our hiking is curtailed due to my ankle and Bill’s knee, but we got out Saturday to do an easy hike at the Sabino Canyon recreation area. It was a beautiful day and there were loads of people taking advantage. I only took a few photos there but did capture a Black Cardinal.

Saturday afternoon I went solo to the Tucson Botanical Garden. It’s not on the scale of the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden back home, but the had a butterfly house and some nice desert exhibits.  Here are some of the photos from there.

Today we are off to Tombstone for a true tourist experience.

I loved the Botanical Garden when we were there some years back now – 5 years ago maybe – those cactus’s are really great and so many different kinds – I had to wear a hat I remember – it was October but hot.

I’ve never heard of a black cardinal – great shot of a majestic bird. Looks like you’re having a lovely time.

Fun to see all the various cacti. I know I would have loved the butterflies.
