Good news

Chris and I are still speaking, the house hasn’t burned down and we eventually got this light put up in the basement.

At least we didn’t have to find joists behind drywall. Someone needs to make ceiling lights that are easier to install. What an incredible pain in the neck! We had been procrastinating for a month but the chimney sweeps are coming today and this is the light nearest teh woodstove.

We got it in, it works and we are still speaking. I call that a huge success!

I also quilted and finished 2 more veterans quilts. I don’t know who made this one but I like it. It’s simple but very effective.

This one was made by Becky. She collected a lot of my hand dyed fabrics over the years and used them in some really beautiful applique quilts. She doesn’t make many of those quilts anymore so she’s decided to use the fabrics in some veterans quilts. I’m so glad! I have 3 tops to quilt right now and this is the first one I have the applique quilt that many of these fabrics came from. I just love this layout that she did for this one.

The next 2 are on the frame and I’ve started quilting.

You can see that I’m using the Woven Wind pantograph on all of these. I love the look of it and it quilts up quickly. I hope to have these wrapped up to share tomorrow.

I also got in an order of backing fabric that we use for the veterans quilts. Members make the tops and the club supplies the backing and batting. We always seem to have enough money from donations, membership and our annual trash-to-treasure sale to cover these large purchases. I got the fabric cut and ready this weekend.

The batting order hasn’t arrived yet but I still have some and I pieced all my scraps into 5 batts. I ordered 5 bolts of fabric, 4 prints and 1 white. I still have 1 white left over from the last order. This is 108″ wide fabric that I cut into 2 yard lengths. I get 7 pieces per bolt plus 1 yard leftover that can be pieced for a single quilt. The singles are the stack on the right. The white once get dyed various shades of blue. Each one of these cuts represents 2 veterans quilts. I have enough cut for about 70 quilts right now and the white fabric will be enough for 30 more. That will get us through the end of the year and probably into 2027.

I like having these ready to go. It really speeds up the whole process. I precut the batting one roll at a time.

Today we have company visiting for 1 night and I hope to go kayak the lake while the boys fish. But I should have time to finish quilting Becky’s quilts. I only have 2 more after that but I think 2 more are arriving Wednesday! I also need to get a Mother’s Day card made. That’s a little more time sensitive at the moment.
