Back from the painting break

We still have one room left to paint but we have to wait until the new blinds arrive. But our energy and relationship survived the guest bedroom and the entry and hallways.  I am the trim painter and Chris does the color. I also do the taping.  I like the tedious tasks. He’s better at heights and managing possible spills. I’m not so good at keeping the drop cloths positioned properly. But I am lucky.

We had not painted any of these spaces, except the guest room, since 2009. Remember that we already did our bathroom and bedroom a few weeks ago. All of the spaces really needed a refresh.

The guest room was a tan color before but it was an awful tan that turned pink in some light. The trim had not been painted since c we move in in 1998! It desperately needed the refresh along with new shades that actually work.

Most importantly, I’ve been wanting to hang this art quilt that Patricia Caldwell made but it looked horrible on the old paint color.

I love this piece and I’m glad it’s finally where it was meant to be.

After the guest room, we moved into the hallways where there has to be 5 miles of trim. It was light blue before but now it’s a brighter blue without scuff marks.

Pictures still need to be hung but that will wait a few days for the paint to cure.

When the family room blinds arrive next week we’ll knock out that space and the kitchen and we’ll be ready for new carpet in the fall. The plan is for this to be the last housework ever before we decide to downsize at some point.

Now, I  can get back to my normal schedule.

In the evenings, when I’ve had a little energy, I  have been frogging and marking areas of thread nests on the Eclipse quilt.

I marked start and stop points with red thread. I’ll get these fixed this week and then I’ll divert my attention to veterans quilts.

In other exciting news, my college roommate’s son’s and wife have asked me to make a baby quilt. The little one is due in December. I love the nursery color palette.  I’m so happy that we’ve moved on from gray!

This isn’t exactly the palette.  There won’t be browns, just the pretty red with the greens and neutrals.

I think I might also crochet a gingham blanket.

Tomorrow I should have the wheelchair blanket done.

I wish I had repainted some years ago – I used to do it frequently but then it really started to bother my neck when one year I decided the ceilings needed it too.
