More bears and a walk

More bears and a walk

We’ve had a couple of rainy days over the weekend but we’re not complaining. It beats the weather at home and it was perfect for watching football Sunday. Yesterday we went for a short hike in Saguaro National Park. The East Park has some great flat trails for gimpy hikers, like me. Here are a few photos from the hike.

We are also getting the treat of watching an Anna’s Hummingbird nest near our friend’s condo. We expect one more egg and we should get to see them hatch before we leave. This is my first time seeing hummingbird nest live.

Since my last update I’ve made 3 more bear blocks. That’s 5 out of 13 and for the last two I didn’t require any unsewing.  Ita quilting miracle!

Next I’m going to work on the tree blocks a bit. I think that if I don’t break up the tree blocks sewing that it might get too tedious.

Today we will have a little pool time and then attempt a drive up Mount Lemmon. The top is at 9000 feet and I have altitude issues. We’ll see how far I get. There are a couple of cookouts on the way up so we should get some good views.

Great pictures! I especially love the hummingbird ones. What are the sandy divots on the ground? Bird nests? Alien footprints?

I’ve been to Saguaro National Park, many years ago! I loved it. I could not believe how many cactuses (cacti?) were there. I didn’t expect a whole forest of them. Truly a special place. And how cool about the hummingbird and her nest. I love hummingbirds, but have never seen one of their nests. Have you been to the Sonoran Desert Museum? I think that’s what it’s called, and I may have asked you this at some point in the past. It’s a really cool place and it has a hummingbird aviary. It has many different varieties of hummingbirds and they whiz right by you. They are so fearless.

Every time you show the bear blocks I see wine glasses! Am I the only one? They’re awfully cute! I’ve never seen a hummingbird nest in real life either, just the birds in our garden, flitting from flower to flower. I love them! Thanks for sharing the photos!

A few years ago we saw a live hummingbird nest…it is amazing to see how teeny the nest, egg and baby!

I have never had the fortune to see a hummingbird’s nest live before. Maybe one day I will.
Great photos of the cacti along your hike. I too wonder about what Peg called “sandy divots.”

Great work on the bears too.

A front row seat to a hummingbird nest – that’s incredible!! Glad you were able to enjoy a hike and shared some of the plants with us. Makes me hope for spring.
