We’ve settled in

Our last day of driving, Saturday, was a lot of this but the landscape picked up the farther South we got in New Mexico.

A friend recommended a stop at the Bernardo Wildlife Area, south of Albuquerque.  It did not disappoint! We saw thousands of Sandhill cranes. There’s a 3 mile loop with several places to stop and watch. At one of them, one of the cranes walked right by us, stopping to turn and pose. They are very big birds and it was a treat to see them.

We unpacked when we arrived Saturday and I set up my sewing nook yesterday.  We went for a long walk, lifted weights in the gym and watched some football to round out our first day. We even had a little sun time to start topping up the vitamin D.

During the games I made some progress on my big blanket. I’m on the second of 6 skeins.

My ankle continues to heal from the sprain in December but I still have some limited mobility. That’s why I reverted to doing some weight workouts.  My stamina might suffer but my arms and back should be stronger.  I’ve had to accept that I’m going to be limited in my hiking opportunities this visit.

I’ll just have to make do with this view!

Today I’m making bread, spending some time by the pool, sewing and watching more football.  I’m a very fortunate person.

What a beautiful view! I’ve always wanted to see sandhill cranes…maybe someday. I hope your ankle gets better soon!

I love sand hill cranes we have seen them a bit going across Nebraska but we were surprised to also see them in Wisconsin near Madison when our younger daughter used to live there. We did see them in some other states but I don’t remember seeing them in Arizona when we have been there different times over the years.

Those cranes are beautiful, how fun to see so many at once! Your porch looks like a wonderful place to read, is it screened? Have fun on your vacation. Hope your ankle heals.

So glad you arrived safely and are getting settled in. Not forcing the hiking is probably the wisest move and with a view like that, I could do without hikes.
