I have spent the last few days trying to figure out how to fit all the blocks in one quilt top. I started in EQ trying to use the custom layout feature. I have tried using that in the past and it’s failed every time. I got through enough of it to get my idea fleshed out a little. But I had to move to graph paper and do it the old fashioned way.

I cut out a block for each t-shirt and then arranged and rearranged to try to get them to fit. It looks like the final quilt will be about 84″ square. That’s quite a bit bigger than I usually do but these quilts set their own dimensions. I got a pretty good payout and tried to cover the sheet with plastic to keep everything in place. That sort of worked.

Next I put the blocks up in the general order that I have on my chart. I’ll look at it again today to make sure that I’m OK with the dispersion of colors.

The background will be blacks and darks. If you notice in the chart, there’s a cross in the center. It will be done in plaid and the binding will be plaid. During the past couple of days I got the blacks and plaids cut apart. I still have to interface the knit bits and will start that today.
I’m excited to get going putting this quilt top together. My chart is taped together and I can now calculate my sashing bits and determine my big blocks for putting it all together.
