Two veterans quilts and baking

Yesterday was quite busy and much of it was spent baking. Now these things might not look as appetizing as “real” bread. They aren’t real, they are gluten-free sourdough. I made burger buns, biscuits and crackers. I’ll split the biscuits and buns with Mom. She’s not so enamored with my crackers! She has some she can buy that she likes. I have to make my own crackers now because I’m allergic to rice.

In the later afternoon I got back to quilting and finished the two veterans quilts.

This simple, but pretty, quilt was made by Karen. I didn’t notice until I took the photo that there’s a pattern with the stars-on-navy fabric.

This one was pieced by Sharon. It was a bit smaller than our usual size so I added the tan border. Sharon is recovering from surgery so I’ll bind it for her.

What do you think of this fabric that I pulled? I don’t really have great options for binding for this quilt but I found a piece of this print and have just enough of it. I quilted these quilts in the blue thread to add some patterning to the wide tan border.

Today I have my physical so that will take up the whole morning. In the afternoon I’m running errands with Mom. Later I hope to start doing some planning for a new project.

The binding fabric looks great. I like the 16 patches alternated with star blocks. I made one several years ago with that layout and it’s one of my favorite quilts.

I like both the border and the blue binding.
Those of us with food issues have to keep trying for special “treats” that others can easily buy. So far I haven’t found any crackers that I like, that I can afford to buy regularly. I avoid grains, so It is a bit of a challenge. (grains make my blood glucose go too high and I prefer not to have to take medicine for it. )

We eat a lot of rice in this house, I can’t imaging being allergic to it, so sorry you are. I like your finishes and the blue binding is just right.

Your bread does look good. Recently the RC has been experimenting with adding all sorts of seeds to our sourdough bread trying to copy a wonderful bakery version we picked up recently.
