Dyeing and quilting

Yesterday, I finally got around to dyeing some veterans’ quilt backs. I also dyed the green on for the backing of the Eclipse quilt. I know it doesn’t “match” Eclipse, but I’m planning to use the back of this quilt under another, smaller quilt on the same bed. This color will work great for the other quilt.

I have an idea for a new quilt, so I parfait dyed some fat quarters in mostly blues.

After dinner, I made some gluten-free sourdough crackers. Since I can’t eat rice anymore, I have to make my own crackers now. These aren’t bad. They aren’t great either, but they will work as a vehicle for peanut butter.

Next, I was off to the basement to figure out what to quilt in the background sky on my quilt.

This was the idea that’s been in my head for days. After stitching it out, I decided it was too big for the space. I need a design that will be easy to put in corners and thi isn’t it.

This was the second design, and it’s a lot of fun to quilt. It’s also fast and would work in the space. But, in the end, I think it’s too structured to be against the straight lines of the houses.

Here’s my third sample, and I’m happy with it. It has a windy feel to it, it’s easy and forgiving, and it will work into corners pretty easily.

I may not get started on the quilting this weekend.  Today, I’ll be at the Montpelier Center all day representing Country School Quilters at the Montpelier Day festivities. Sunday will be football all day, starting at 9 am! I’m taking supplies to cut out some veterans’ quilts at the show and will likely crochet all day Sunday.

Nice looking crackers – I didn’t realize you couldn’t eat rice either – you are limited for sure on food – there is more variety available now but still not good enough for some I’m sure.

The fabric looks great you will have a bit there for backings for sure

Your Tree quilt is coming along nicely. I’m looking forward to seeing what you have planned for those gorgeous blue fabrics.

I love to see you creating color with dye. Those blues will make a lovely quilt.
I like all of those quilting designs, but I think the last one will work into corners much more easily.

Of course you know I’m curious to know what you’re going to do with those wonderful blues. We made sourdough crackers once and thought they were rather awful so haven’t repeated the process. I don’t think any amount of peanut butter would have made them palatable.

I’m curious about your sky test quilting. Later, you show squares alongside the house quilt that you will use for fiddle mats. Is that where you auditioned the designs?
