Cleaning and crochet

Yesterday was a full day of basement cleaning. It’s not fun or interesting, but with a wood stove, it has to be done. I did notice that it wasn’t quite as dirty as previous years. I think that due to me not selling hand dyed fabric anymore. I just don’t create the volume of lint that I used to when I dyed every week. I’m glad to have that chore done before we leave for vacation.

In the evening, I was to tired to sew, so I got out some scrap yarn and made some spirals to stitch to some fidget mats. I also did a stitch swatch that I can sew to a mat for texture. I think this will be a good use of scrap yarn.

To make the spirals, I chained 25 and, starting in the second chain from the hook, I did 2 DC in every stitch back to the start. I tie the two ends in a knot and stitch that end to the mat using a zigzag stitch. I trap the yarn tails under the spiral end to secure them. I have been adding a button on to of the stitched end.

Today I have 2 visits with friends and another stopping by. I’ll do some stitching in between.

I need to do a bit of cleaning myself. I dropped a lid under the bed and oh my the dust!

Pride and Prejudice is my most favorite to watch every once in a while. Was it the 1995 production with Colin Firth.

Using scrap yarn to make textural pieces for the fidget mats is a grand idea.

Another good use for bits of scrap yarn! It would be fun to make the spirals using the scrubby yarn too – one more layer of texture.
