Road2VA part 1

Road2VA part 1

Road2VA is probably the most popular quilt show in the US aside from Houston. I’ve never been to it but have heard about it for years. I was very excited when I found out that they were expanding and the new location was right here in Richmond,  VA!

Yesterday, Mom, Kim, Winnie and I went to check it out and had a great time. The most local show that we have to compare it to is the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in Hampton. We go to that one every year. We enjoy both, but they are quite different.

The biggest difference is the Mid-Atlantic is a competition quilt show. Road2VA has a quilt exhibit but no competition. The quilts on exhibit are collections. Some are artist specific, some from quilt art groups, or exhibits with specific themes. I’ve got a few to share today and will have more tomorrow because I’m going back to the show today to meet a blog friend.

This show is a little smaller than Mid-Atlantic, but it is plenty big, and I really liked the variety of vendors. I didn’t take any classes, but I think education is the focus of this show. I might have missed a good opportunity but wasn’t in the mood for classes. Hopefully, they will bring the show back next year. We all enjoyed it.

I’ll get more photos today while I’m on my own. Meanwhile here are some photos from the Kaffe Fassett exhibit.

All of the quilts in his exhibit are from.books he’s published. This last quilt is one I’m considering for my next symmetry quilt.

These.next quilts are a small part of an exhibit of Memorial Day quilts.

These last quilts are from an exhibit of beautiful vintage quilts. The hand quilting on them is amazing.

More tomorrow!

I have only been to one quilt show. It was run by a guild in another part of the state. I enjoyed it, but at the time I was a new quilter and didn’t know what to look for. Ha ha.

They’re all beautiful but must admit that the applique one is a stunner!

I really miss going to the Mid Atlantic show … Mom and I went for years until she moved.
