Veterans quilts

After our great visit to the Fredericksburg VA facility Tuesday, I took that inspiration right to the basement yesterday and got two more veterans quilts quilted. This one was made by Gwendolyn. Our group has made lots of quilts with this simple framed square block and I think they always look great with star and swirl quilting.

The second quilt was my quilt. I finished piecing this last week and yesterday I got it quilted and bound. It almost seems illegal to make a quilt in a week. I’ve done this chandelier pattern many times. I love the design effect and it’s so easy to make. It would look good scrappy too.

I think I mentioned that I took a gluten-free sourdough discard class Monday. One of the recipes we received was for scones. I had to do several of changes to remove my allergens (egg, rice, butter) but I ended up with a pretty good new biscuit. Even Chris liked it. I need to do a little more work on it but I think we have a possible new recipe here.

Today several of us are going to the Roda2VA quilt show in Richmond.

Those two quilts will be well received, I am sure.

Scones? I am impressed. No eggs, no butter – that is a great trick. I am glad to hear that Chris liked them too.

I think the simple designs are most effective for the veteran’s quilts. Calming designs.

You obviously were inspired! And those scones look amazing. I’m going to have to search out a recipe for those because we have sourdough all the time.

I’m Vicki

I’m Vicki Welsh and I’ve been making things as long as I can remember. I used to be a garment maker but transitioned to quilts about 20 years ago. Currently I’m into fabric dyeing, quilting, Zentangle, fabric postcards, fused glass and mosaic. I document my adventures here.
