All alone

Our friends left today to return to England so we are alone until we leave Friday to head home ourselves.  We did get in one last pretty epic hike together.

Sewing has also continued and I got 2 more blocks together.

I have figured out that if I press one of the last seams in a different direction, and rotate alternating blocks, that the only seams that will meet are the corner triangles.  I’m pressing all of those open. So, these blocks should go together easily.

The blanket is coming along nicely too. I worked on it Saturday night while I watched the Virginia Tech game on TV.

I took it out on the gray deck for this photo so the colors are finally showing close to accurate.

For our last hike together we decided to hike Beech Mountain again but do it in reverse. Then I had the bright idea to add on a little loop that we’ve never done before.

It had 4 ladders to climb down! The trail name, Beach Cliffs Trail, should have been a clue. But I did it without incident.

Then we made it over to Canada Cliffs Trail where we climbed a lot of granite steps and scrambled over a lot of rocks….very carefully.

I’m really good at crab walks and butt slides. I’m not graceful at all but I get it done. After this we still had Beech Mountain to go.

The whole thing was about 2.5 hours and about 900′ in total elevation.  I was absolutely spent but I’d do it again. The views were beautiful.

Chris and I are taking it easy today. I’ll be sewing on my blocks and we might be able to get the kayaks put later.

Glad you were careful. It doesn’t take much to have a nasty accident. Blocks look great. Enjoy yourself and the views!
