This was a bit of a disappointing month for reading, quantity wise. I’ve been quite distracted this month and have spent way too much time on YouTube. It also took me too long to read the third book on my list and I spent hours on Map of Bones before I finally gave up and DNFed it.
November is looking up though. The book I’m currently reading is keeping my attention and I don’t have any more romcoms on my reading list for the month.
What did you read in October that you loved?
DNF
Map of Bones by James Rollins – International espionage with religious relics and magic molecules with outdated dialogue. I jsut couldn’t finish it.

Murder At The Grand Alpine Hotel
By Lucy Foley and Agatha Christie, Read by a cast
Lucy Foley is one of my favorite mystery writers and apparently she’s loved by the Agatha Christie estate because they asked her to write a new Miss Marple mystery.
The book is set in the Swiss Alps at the Grand Alpine Hotel. The resort is full of the wealth and notable. There’s a ruthless politician and his socialite wife, a frivolous Hollywood actress, a strange friend of the politician and a doctor who doesn’t seem to fit in. Of course Miss Marple is there traveling with a friend and her companion.
A body is found just as a blizzard strands everyone at the Hotel. Miss Marple is sitting nearby as the investigations commences. No one thinks she is paying attention as she quietly knits. But they must solve this murder before another happens.
It was fun to be with Miss Marple again.

Love By The Book
By Jessica George, Read By Isabel Adomokah Young
Remy is lucky. She has the best friend group. She and her three best friends have been there for each other forever. Remy has also successfully published her first book that was loosely based on the friend group.
But life changes and the friend group breaks up geographically and Remy is left feeling alone for the first time in her life. At the same time her editor is pushing her for a second book but her idea bank is empty.
Simone is a dedicated and adored elementary school teacher. But teaching barely pays the bills and she has a lucrative side hustle to feed her lifestyle. She doesn’t have friends but she has a close family….until she loses her family.
One day Remy and Simone bump into each other in a bookstore. Is it too late in life to make new friends?
This is a really good book about platonic female friendship. I think in a time where the internet has made so many people so lonely, this is a nice inspiring story.

Tourist Season
By Brynne Weaver, Read by Samantha Brentmoor and Robert Hatchet
Well, that was different! My niece was reading this when I visited her and she recommended it. I don’t like horror and I don’t really like romantic comedy but I decided that I should step out of my comfort zone occasionally. Plus the murder theme made it kind of Halloweenish. This is one of the reasons that I only read three books this month. It took me a while to get thorough it.
This book is rom com horror with extra spice, like explicit spice. It’s much more comedy than horror. There’s tons of murder
Set is the wonderfully named Cape Carnage, our story features Harper Starling and Nolan Rhodes. Nolan has been on a personal mission to avenge his brothers death and his own near-death from an auto accident. On each anniversary he has dealt punishment to one of the perpetrators. Harper is the last one on his list.
Unknows to Nolan, Harper isn’t Harper and she has her own murderous secrets that she buries in her well-tended garden.
Of course they find themselves unavoidably attracted to each other.
It’s just not my genre but for people who might like it, I have good news. This is the first in a trilogy. The second book is already out and the third is due out in June.
