Two finishes in a row. “Cold virus week” wasn’t horribly unproductive. While I was lounging in my recliner I did work on the Virginia Tech baby blanket off and on. I got it finished during the Bears game last night.

34″ x 36″

This is for the anticipated grandson of my college roommate. The new Dad is also a VT grad. I’ve never been more sure of a gift being loved! I still have to make a quilt because that’s what they actually requested. I just couldn’t help myself and had to make this too. The baby quilt will be a much faster project.

As you look at the photos just know that getting the colors right was pretty much impossible.

This is the closest and the orange still looks coral. I even used a color card. Just know that IRL it look “right”.

Here are the details:
The pattern is Daisy Farm Crafts Teal Gingham Baby Blanket. If you’ve never tried a DFC pattern, you should. They are so well written and they have video tutorials to go along with them.
I used a 5mm (H) hook and Premier Anti-Piling Everyday DK in Garnet, Bright Orange and Terra Cotta. I bought based on the pattern recommendations and it worked out perfect. I bought 1 extra skein of Garnet and now I’m left with one unused skein of Garnet. Baby might have to get a hat to use up some of this extra yarn.

This is my first time using this yarn. I’ve used several other DK weight yarns but Premier was the only one available in the colors that I needed. I liked working with it and would definitely use it again.

The basic pattern is 1 block equals 11 stitches and 10 rows and you carry the yarn across. The stitch pattern is alternating single and double crochet and they are stacked on each other so that you basically get columns of alternating single and double crochet. I think it’s called Griddle Stitch and it creates a nice, squishy texture.

The pattern called for the border to be 1 row of single crochet and 1 row of double crochet. I added a row of twisted single crochet to give the edge more stability. Twisted single crochet is like the crab stitch, but easier.

I did 11 x 11 blocks and that made a perfect sized blanket.

Time to pick a new project!

Definitely a hat is needed! I think I have that pattern! Your blanket turned out great! I’ll have to look up the twisted single crochet stitch.
