Getting back to normal

I haven’t done much since we returned from the beach. Some of Chris’ friends have been visiting for golfing and fishing. Normally that would still leave me with lots of time. But yesterday I had to go to the mall and buy something to wear to a wedding.

I’d rather dig ditches than shop for clothes. But I filled my purse with chocolate, put my ear buds in to listen to my book and proceeded to walk the mall. I decided to go into every store that might have something to fit. I did find a dress for the wedding but also some summer casual clothes that I desperately needed. It was 5 hours of torture and I will not shop again for at least a year.

Back in the sewing room I’ve made a little progress.

All of the center blocks are done and I’m working on the 24 corner blocks. Today, however, I’m going to work on quilting Mom’s quilt.

Out in the garden the dark purple irises are starting to bloom.

I love seeing the irises in bloom. I haven’t seen any dark purple ones this year.

Glad your day of torture yielded some pretty things. I love to shop and used to spend at least 4-5 hours in Macy’s a couple of times a year while I was working. I’d try on so much stuff and put outfits together, trying different tops with pants, looking for nice dresses to pair with pretty flats or low heels. Adding a new pair of earrings to the collection, or a great necklace that would perfectly complete a look. I kinda miss it. But now I am retired and very little opportunities to dress up. It is actually sad looking at the pretty things in my closet I never get to wear.

I don’t wear anything but jeans/capri’s and tees it seems like. I feel your pain. I used to like to shop for clothes – maybe Carolyn said when you are working your have something to dress for when you aren’t you have no need for them? I even shopped jewellery back then. And I didn’t work at a dressy place – most were in uniforms other than me – as medical records manager and secretary I didn’t need to – most others were nurses.

It is hard to shop for clothes when you know it is for something special so you might need that outfit again in five years lol well it still be in style so you don’t need to shop again then

Oh I hear you loud and clear on the shopping for clothes, especially dresses! I hate wearing them to and haven’t for many years. Are your dark purple irises almost black they are so dark unless the sun hits them just right? I have those kind and mine are up about 5″ now. We got back yesterday!
