Now that I’ve gotten pat the scary parts, I am thoroughly enjoying working on this quilt. Every piece has to be measured and cut individually and I’ve made a few mistakes. You know that I don’t mind tedious projects and this is one of those. I want it to be just right and I’m happy to unpick seams if needed.
The interesting thing about this project is that my past experiences with memory quilts (3 of them) were stress-filled. This one hasn’t been that way at all. I feel like this young man was a happy person and I feel that while I’m working on it. I feel confident that I’ll have the top together before we leave on vacation and that I should have the whole project wrapped up by May.

I accomplished another very important goal with this quilt last week. For the back, I wanted it to be a blue that’s as close as possible to UNC blue. His UNC shirt is on top of the backing fabric. I don’t think I could have done a hand dyed color closer than this one and I’m over the moon! For those of you who dye, this blue is a combination of turquoise and grape.
This week I’m continuing to work on this quilt as I have time and also working on quilting some veterans quilts but my time is limited. I want to spend as much time as with our guests as possible.
