Just a couple of quick things

Just a couple of quick things

Yesterday I spent the day working on some Christmas gifts. One of the recipients occasionally reads the blog so I won’t share them until they are gifted.

I can tell you that I was in my sewing room most of the day  with a view of our first snow of the winter. This photo is looking out the front door just as the snow stopped mid-morning. It was beautiful!

I did make a little project Wednesday evening though.  When I was telling Kim about my fire log carrier she mentioned that she needed one. I didn’t have a big enough piece of the canvas that I used on mine but I had this.

Several years ago I tried selling fabric at a quilt show. I had a big sign printed for my booth. The vending experiment didn’t work out but I kept that sign thinking I might be able to use it as a drop cloth or something.

It’s now going to have a new life as a log carrier.  I folded it in half lengthwise to make it as sturdy as possible.  Since I had the measurements and experience from the first one, this one only took about an hour to make!

My only reservation is that it might be slippery but I can fix that if it’s a problem.  She doesn’t have far to haul her wood so it should be OK.

The other thing I did was wash a lot of patriotic batik fabrics.  Hancock’s of Paducah had a sale so I bought a lot of patriotic batiks for veterans quilt kits. I’m not sure when I’ll get around to cutting these out, but they should last me a couple of years.

I didn’t just wash them. I soaked them to make sure all the excess dye came out.

Today we are visiting friends in Charlottesville but there will be time this weekend to start the memory quilt.

The snow really is pretty while it’s white and untouched. Our snow is settling down with a few days in the high 20s. I walked out to fill the bird feeders and it looked like about 3-4″, down from 7″.

While I am not a fan of snow, it does look lovely when it is untouched.

The log carrier is great! I am sure she will enjoy using it. I find it hard to believe that your fabric didn’t sell well at a quilt show. I am pretty sure it sold well online.

I love vistas of unbroken snow – walking or driving in it is another matter entirely. Your log carriers are so cool because they don’t look like everyone else’s!

snow always looks beautiful when it first falls doesn’t it – and then of course you need to clear off walk ways and wait for roads to clear and then it doesn’t seem fun after all.

What a great use of the sign! Your friend will think of you every time she hauls wood!

Hancock’s was having a great sale and it looks like you scored big! I was good and didn’t buy any fabric. Patty
