Veterans quilts

Yesterday started with my annual eye exam. Something happened there that hasn’t happened in 40 years! This will be my third year with the same prescription. For most of my life I have had to get a new prescription every year. That gets expensive! There was a time when I would have at least 5 prescription glasses every year. Glasses are so expensive now that I can’t do that anymore but I do always have 2 pair plus sunglasses. Now I get to keep the current ones for a third year.

I celebrated by coming home and finishing quilting the two veterans quilts. This one was made by Peg. All of the fabrics are leafy prints.

Free motion leaves seemed to be the right choice for the quilting. The backing is more of a navy blue but the camera wanted to make it this pretty bright blue.

The other one is this quilt that I made 2 weekend ago. I even had time to get the binding on it so this one is done! I’ve made this simple pattern 5 or 6 times. The squares are 4″ and it’s a really good use of scraps.

I had cut a binding from the blue but I had the green leftover from something else. I think the green is better.

I even had time to load 2 more quilts. I might get started on these today after I take Mom for her eye appointment. Lots of eye things going on this week!

I’m still pondering my next Christmas card design so it’s good that I have these to work on in the mean time.

Glasses are expensive! I would rather buy fabric!

I got new glasses either late last year or at the beginning of this year. I can’t believe how expensive they are.

I love your veterans quilt – so simple yet elegant at the same time with your hand dyed fabrics. I love the inner and outer borders.

I used to need new glasses every year but now it seems like every other is ok. The quilting looks really nice

I can usually get by for 5 years without a prescription change. Maybe getting older has some perks.

Both of the veterans quilts are pretty. The free motion leaves quilting looks great on them.

Before cataract surgery, I needed new glasses yearly at a minimum. Now I am going on 3 years or more with the same prescription. As Wanda said, one of the advantages of aging…..and there aren’t that many. Ha ha.

I really like the green binding on your veterans quilt 🙂 Glasses, both the frames and the lenses are expensive….you are fortunate, indeed, to have no change in your RX. Happy dance!

A agree glasses are so over the top expensive. I usually can go 2 years. And then I often keep the same frames to help reduce the cost. This year my prescription took a huge change and it took a lot of time to get used to them. You freehand leaves are very pretty.

    Wonderful veterans quilts.

My vision prescription hasn’t changed in a couple of year either, unfortunately, my eye dr says it is because I am getting older!

Must be something in the air – I had my eye appointment this week too. Only had a miniscule change and so don’t need to get new lenses so I was a happy camper too.
