Our vacation is starting off great. The weather is perfect and is only damped some smoke from the Canada wildfires. I don’t know anything about the status of those fire but I think people here have been dealing with the smoke for several weeks. Here’s what we were up to this weekend.

Saturday was the local Blueberry Festival and we walked downtown to check out the festivities. For such a small town (less than 4000 population), it was a lively event. One of the churches even had a nice quilt exhibit.

I really like seeing quilts displayed over church pews. The group is called the Country Square Quilters. They reminded me of my own Country School Quilters.

This one was one of my favorites.

We walked downtown from our little cottage and we passed this gem of a house. This one has a lot of bold decorating choices.

This is my favorite.

Saturday night our host took us out on his boat to watch a great fireworks show over the lake. It was a great first day of vacation and it included 2 naps.

I got my sewing table set up Saturday and started working on the Eclipse quilt. I’m using the picnic table on the porch to do all of my set up and trimming. I really should have brought my larger cutting mat but I’m making the little one work.

Here’s my progress so far. The center star blocks are all pieced. I still have to add the light blue centers and I’ll do that today. I’m not going to be sewing any of the blocks together on my trip because the machine I’m using doesn’t have an accurate 1/4″ foot.
So far, so good.

The best part about working on the porch is that I can see when the loons are close by so I can take a break to watch them.

Chris is having a great vacation too! Don’t worry, this one went back in the lake to be caught again.
Today we’ll do a long kayak and then I’ll be sewing again. We have ordered lobster for dinner!
