Two more veterans’ quilts and some ice dyeing

My main goal of yesterday was to get these 2 veterans’ quilts quilted so I can deliver them to their makers at our sewing days, today. This one was made by Dawn and I think it’s a very clever design. The border is just half square triangles but it looks more complicated.

I actually don’t remember who gave me this one. I think it’s a very comforting quilt.

I quilted both of these quilts in dark red thread because I wanted to have the quilting really stand out on this calm quilt.

I also did a little ice dyeing as well. The last time I ordered from Dharma I decided to try some of their specific ice dyeing mixes. These are just to test those out. I’ll have results in a couple of days.

Today and tomorrow are sewing days so I’ve packed my new project and sewing machine and will be heading out after the chimney repair people get done sealing the chimney.

I had to empty out the ice cooler at work because the compressor died and the company was going to bring us a new cooler. I had to toss 83 bags – some partially melted – of ice to empty the cooler. Would have been great for ice dyeing!

The red thread worked beautifully on both quilts. Dawn’s quilt shows exactly why i don’t like “in the ditch” quilting. The effect of the HSTs in the border would be a bit less dramatic if the quilting was only on the seam lines.

I am looking forward to seeing the results of the ice dyeing

That is the perfect quilting design, and the red thread is a great choice.
