Summer Sunset

Summer Sunset 93″ square

This quilt was a few years in the making. I found the pattern at a longarm quilt show about 5 years ago. The pattern is no longer available and, frankly, I wouldn’t recommend it. It is beautiful and I love the woven effect but there are some technical issues with seam build-up in the center.
I had been wanting to make a quilt using the Summer Sunset gradient (in the border) and this was a great opportunity. Because of the seam build up I couldn’t do any custom quilting but the open pantograph will keep this one soft enough to sleep under.

Ice Dyed cotton sateen backing

The backing is ice dyed cotton sateen. I will use this quilt on both sides for sure!

When I started making the quilt I had a lot of leftover slivers of fabric from the foundation piecing. I remembered that the pattern came in 2 sizes so I ordered the small size and made a duplicate. It has the same problems with seam buildup, especially the center. I solved that by turning the wall hanging into a tree skirt. The gradient is shown off well on the back of the tree skirt.

The tree skirt closure is 2 buttons and I did a little bit of custom quilting on this project. I use this every christmas under my blown glass ornament tree.

This is the label for the big quilt. I use Wild Gears to make frames for all of my labels. I print and draw on paper and them photocopy the design to fabric.

he quilt is big, just as I like them. This is how it will look on a queen size bed.
