My nephew asked for a wall hanging for his music room. He likes the symmetry quilts that I make. I didn’t have any great ideas for a new quilt so we looked through the book Fabricadabra by Paula Nadelstern. He liked Aurora Part Deux by Ricki Smith Selva. I didn’t really want to make a quilt exactly like one in the book but he was pretty set on this and wouldn’t even let me change the fabric. At least that made the design process easy! I used a different piecing method and made it wider that otherwise it’s the same quilt.

The quilt is made with 1″ strips. I cut about 100 of them and used all but about 6.

I marked the design on batting and pieced/quilted it directly on the longarm using my channel locks.

The effect with this particular fabric is so cool and piecing with the channel locks is a lot easier than I expected.

The backing fabric is the Gray Skies gradient and the quilt is finished with a fused facing.
