Red Sunset Quilt #2

Red Sunset, about 97″ square

Before I talk about the new Red Sunset, I’ll provide a little background.

IN 2013 we built this  bed that we recovered with hand dyed denim. I made this quilt to go on the bed and it tucked perfectly inside the upholstered frame. Here’s the post about that quilt.

A couple of years ago I added a foam topper to the mattress and, while the quilt is still functional. this gap drives me nuts. So I had to make a replacement quilt.

The new quilt uses the same color palette and the Tequila Lime pattern from Quiltworks. I selected one of their cormer packs to enlarge it to 99″ square. The whole thing is foundation pieced and I enjoyed every minute of making it.

The quilt is reversible with this hand dyed backing in the same color palette. I might use this size in the summer.

Now the quilt covers the bedding. After it’s washed it will shrink up a couple of inches but it will still be perfectly fine.

It was quilted with Superior Magnifico thread on top and So Fine on the bottom. Click on any of these photos to see a close up of some of the quilting sections. I picked 3 major motifs: feathers, spikes and circles and use those all over the quilt.

Here’s how it looks on the bed.
