On Point

I had this top completed about 2 years before I finally quilted it in 2012. This is the 3rd quilt in my scrap blocks “series”. I made stacks and stacks of these crumb blocks several years ago. I put all the bright scraps together and made Mardi Gras in 2006. With the blue and brown scraps I made Zig Zag last year. The greens were used in 2 veterans/QOV quilts shown on the 2012 Quilts page. Anyway, back to On Point. It’s named that for 2 reasons. Obviously part of is the setting but it also refers to my mission to stay on task and get these tops quilted. See all of the Crumb quilts here.

On Point, 95″ square, finished in 2012

I decided to quilt in on all-over feathers using Suzanne Earley’s Meandering Magic (which, I believe, are out of print). I didn’t want to do the same feather for 5 miles so instead I did lots of different feathers. Some are from Suzanne’s book, some from other places and some completely made up.
I stitched each feather for about 18″ and the alternated the feather designs with traditional hump and bump feathers.
We use this one as our winter bed quilt.

I’m Vicki

I’m Vicki Welsh and I’ve been making things as long as I can remember. I used to be a garment maker but transitioned to quilts about 20 years ago. Currently I’m into fabric dyeing, quilting, Zentangle, fabric postcards, fused glass and mosaic. I document my adventures here.
