Fireworks Quilt

Fireworks, 55″ x 72″

This quilt was started in March and completed in November all in 2019! I had no plans for it except to use up a stash of Gradients and a couple of Stash packs. The patter is called 4th of July and is a discontinued pattern by Judy Neimeyer. I determined that I needed to either use it or toss it out. This was a great time to use it. The background is an assortment of very dark fabrics from my stash including grays, blues, purples, browns and greens.

I did a little bit of color planning. The big spikes are all either green or yellow. The small spikes in the center are all blues and everything else is either purple, pink, red or orange.

The quilt is for my nephew, Patrick. He is a graphic artist and loves bright colors.

This photo shows the arrangement of 4 blocks around a center 2.5″ square. Judy’s patterns aren’t for the faint of heart but I really love foundation piecing so once I had it planned I just had fun piecing the blocks.

The batting is Quilter’s Dream and it’s quilted with Invisifil thread in the to and So Fine in the bobbin.

Patrick loves the Lost My marbles cake so I added a few Spirograph quilted motifs to the 20 point stars.

The backing is a fabric called Circle Play from Henry Glass.
