Diverted

I meant to start quilting Mom’s quilt  this weekend but that didn’t happen. I spent a lot of time working on ideas. I looked at the designs in the fabric and that led me to a combination of floral and leaf motifs.

I’m not good at this kind of motif but I need the practice. To start quilting I need air erasable pens. I have 4 and all of them are dried up! The new ones should arrive today.

I diverted to a couple of other projects. First, I decided to finish the 8 fidget mats that I started in December.

I just use things I have on hand: zippers, texture fabrics, crochet spirals, buttons, velcro, ric rac, ribbon and silk fabric strips.

The other project I’m trying to finish is the big blanket.

It’s about to get too warm to work on big blankets so I need to get this wrapped up quickly.  As of last night I’m on the last skein and only have about 10 rows left to go. For summer, I’ll only do wheelchair and baby sized blankets.

I also had a great visit with a long time friend Saturday. Lila and I, and several other ladies, started the Hampton Roads American Sewing Guild chapter in the early 90’s. We’ve kept in touch over the years since I left Virginia Beach in ’98 but we haven’t had time for a long catch up. She now lives in Richmond so we will get to spend time together again. It was a real treat to see her again.

Today we have visitors but I should get a little quilting or crochet done.

I don’t think I would have the patience for a fidget mat – these are cute
