December Finishes and January Plans

December was not a month of fantastic finishes but I have no complaints. Getting the Christmas postcards done every year is a major accomplishment on it’s own. With the birthday cards I made a total of 78 cards. It’s possible that this is the last year for them. The mail service is getting so unreliable. Some of the cards took weeks to deliver, especially the local ones! The Richmond VA mail sorting center has a notorious reputation and they don’t seem to be doing anything to fix it.

Thanks to football and a sprained ankle, I finished 2 crochet blankets. Both of these will be donation blankets. The one on the left is huge, for a tall person. The one on the right is mean to be a wheelchair blanket.

I also repaired 2 quilts for my cousin’s son. These took more time procrastinating than actually fixing.

I made some Christmas gifts for friends. That was a fun little Cricut project.

Lastly, after I hurt my back a second time hauling firewood, I made myself the fanciest log carrier ever and then made another for my friend. Hers is made from an old booth sign when I sold fabric at a quilt show. My carrier is holding up great so far.

My big project for the month was, and is, the memory quilt.

These were my goals for December:
– dyeing fabric and cutting kits for the bear quilt. It will be my Arizona project – fabrics are dyed but I will likely not get anything cut out before we go
– make the memory t-shirt quilt top, it will be quilted in the Spring – underway
– start repairing my nephew’s vintage quilts – done!
– quilt some veterans quilts – thanks to the sprained ankle, this didn’t happen
– maybe start quilting Eclipse – didn’t even think about it!

I’m Vicki

I’m Vicki Welsh and I’ve been making things as long as I can remember. I used to be a garment maker but transitioned to quilts about 20 years ago. Currently I’m into fabric dyeing, quilting, Zentangle, fabric postcards, fused glass and mosaic. I document my adventures here.
