More veterans quilts

Yesterday was a productive sewing day with Country School Quilters. I’ll share what I did at the end of the post. First, here are the two latest quilted veterans quilts.

This one was made by Becky. This past year she coordinated a 9-patch exchange with the group. It wrapped up at the October meeting so I expect to see a lot of 9-patch quilts coming through over the next few months. They all had red centers. I think the group is doing pinwheel blocks for next year.

This is one of my own quilts and I got the binding on it last night. That’s two quilts off my to-do list this week! I’ve made this simple quilt a couple of times. The blue fabrics are all scraps from dyed quilt backs and the prints are patriotic batik scraps from previous quilts.

I quilted both with red thread. I must have quilted lots of quilts with red thread because I now have 3 nearly-empty cones.

At sewing I worked on this kit. I was worried about how this one would look. The star fabric is a dyed fabric that was pretty much a failure. I’ve tried to use it several times to no avail. I finally cut it into smaller pieces and I’m pleased with it against this blue fabric. I got all of the components and one block sewn together. Today I’ll get the other 11 blocks together and, maybe, get the top completed.

I expect to receive 2 more veterans quilts from other people to be quilted.

That’s what they say, if it’s not working cut it smaller, right? The blocks look great and I bet it keeps your eye traveling around the quilt. Cherie

I love your star blocks, and they coordinate well with the blue fabric.

Your “failure” fabric looks good against the strong more solid colors. You sure are cranking out the finished veteran quilts! Patty

I remember seeing one quilt teacher online saying “If you don’t like your fabric, you haven’t cut it small enough yet. ”
Of course I like that fabric when you showed your fabric pull for the quilt.

Looks like you found the perfect background to go with that dyed star fabric.

I am glad that you’re happy with the way the new quilt is coming together especially when you’re trying to use a fabric you aren’t overly thrilled with. It looks great so I think you’ve solved the problem.
