Delivery day

Delivery day

Yesterday, it was finally time to deliver my collection of items to From The Heart. Once I  emptied the closet, I realized that it’s been about a year since I last donated items. I had a lot of things! They don’t require, and probably don’t want, plastic bags, but it helps me keep them clean and organized. I delivered 2 big blankets, 9 fidget mats, 5 wheelchair blankets, 7 shawls and 2 scarves.

I also had 5 bags of yarn that friends gave me to donate.

I took a couple of photos while I was there. This is the donation sorting room. There’s a bin for every type of item. I noticed they had a lot of shawls but not so many wheelchair blankets. After I finish the current shawl, I might switch to wheelchair blankets for a while.

These are items that have been sorted and are ready for delivery.  As of August 31, they have already distributed over 25,000 items.

For people who don’t have the funds for materials, they have a large assortment of yarn and fabric for volunteer makers to take. They even have lots of patterns. Every time I visit, there are several ladies stitching away in the front room. It’s set up like a comfortable living room.

When I  got home I installed a new task light on my sewing machine. I bought this one and so far, I love it! My previous light was only illuminated the presser foot area. This one lights up everything!

After that, I put a binding on Estelle’s veterans’ quilt.

Today, I’m finally going to dye some quilt backs for the veterans’ quilts and them get back to the houses quilt.

It’s great that you have a place to take all of the donations. I live in a rural area and don’t know of any place like that. Shipping is so expensive so giving locally is the best way.

That is quite a haul you are delivering, I am sure they were thrilled. Their supply room is pretty impressive too. I have a light like that on my sewing machine and it really is nice.

Wow that is a lot of donations. More areas should have such a great way for locals to share.

I’m sure they were happy to see you arrive with so many great donations. And thank you for the note about the sewing machine light – I’ve put one on my wish list at Amazon and will get one the next time I put in an order.
