4 more fidget mats

Yesterday, I finished the last 4 fidget mats. I met with some friends Thursday evening, and one of my friends took one for her mother. I was so happy that she wanted one! I have 8 left to donate.

These mats are a lot of fun to make. More fun than I expected, and I have plenty of supplies to make a lot of them! I took these detailed photos to remind myself of some of the things that I used. The placemats were a great start, but I think I could longarm a large piece for a base, cut it to size, and finish it with serged edges.

I will have 9 to deliver in September but will be making lots more.

Now I need to get serious about packing. We leave Thursday!

It is wonderful that a friend took one for her Mom. I know that some dementia patients are obsessed with certain types of things – like fasteners. I could see making one with just zippers, buttons and maybe some Velcro or other types of fasteners.

Longarming a base is a great way to get a bunch done at once. I’ve done that, and bound them by machine. I didn’t even think of using the serger, great idea!

I know those will give comfort to patients. It’s somewhat sad to know there’s a need for such things, but they do serve to use up a lot of bits and bobs from our stashes.
